Emmanuel Mercier entered the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse de Paris at 14 and won there four first prizes (for piano, chamber music, harmony and counterpoint). After several masterclasses with Professor Evgeny Malinin, he spent a whole year at the Banff Center in Canada, where he met teachers like Professor Gyorgy Sebök, Menahem Pressler, and also composers like Luciano Berio.
Laureate of piano competitions in France, Italy and Greece, he began to teach at the CNSMD de Paris in 1987, called by his former teacher to become his assistant. Since then, he has been Professeur Assistant beside Brigitte Engerer, and today Claire Désert.
Emmanuel Mercier plays a huge repertoire from Bach to Ligeti (etudes and concerto), piano solo, and chamber music. He is also a singer accompanist. Additionally, he focuses on discovering and playing rarities. He has recorded for the French radio, theatre and cinema.
